He is knitted in stocking stitch on straight needles, the front and back of his body, wings, tail and beak are all worked flat and sewn together following simple written instructions. His eyes are duplicate stitches and his chest and body are decorated with French Knots. This particular Little Alf measures about 12cm (5 inches) high and 11.5cm (4.75 inches) wide. He is knitted in Riihivilla’s Aarni (100% wool; 120m (131yd)/100g) pure Finn sheep yarn, and requires only 25g of main colour, 15g of contrasting colour and a tiny amount of a third colour to complete. This yarn is sadly no longer available but any weight of yarn can be used with these instructions – just make sure you follow the suggested tension on the ball band.
